women in contemporary art

Feminist activism in the 21st century begins with a 'post'.  A response to American art historian Linda Nochlin's 1971 essay "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?", women in contemporary art recognises the troubled history of inequality in the arts and aims to give recognition and visibility to female artists practicing today via content curation on Instagram. While being aware of the injustices which have suppressed and limited the recognition of female artists, the account focuses on advocating the accomplishments by intentionally selecting artists from a diverse range of backgrounds. Works are archived using their title and year of completion and where possible are tagged with the artists personal Instagram account to ensure they truly benefit from the connecting power and reach of social media.
